Why a video message to your brother when he has his first baby matters
The direct sentence between brothers often goes unsaid for a lifetime. A short video is a safe place to finally say it. A first baby is the moment a person joins the long line of parents in a family. A message from you welcomes him into it.
Keep it short. He will watch it at three in the morning with one hand. Keep it short. He will not watch a long one, but he will watch a short one twice.
Three angles to take
Pick one. A message that tries to do all three usually does none of them well.
The night he was born
Tell him what it was like when he arrived, or what you remember of his earliest weeks. He is about to understand that story for the first time.
Who he is now
Tell him what you admire about the man he became, with one example. Brothers rarely hear it from each other.
A message for the baby
Record a second short piece, speaking to the baby directly, to be opened years later. Say who you are and how wanted this child was.

A sample 60-second script
Replace the bracketed parts with your own words. Read it once, then put it down and talk.
Hi [name]. If you are watching this, there is a baby in the house, and you are tired. So I will be quick.
You are doing better than you think. I mean that. [One reason you know he will be a good parent.]
I remember [one memory of him as a child, or of his first weeks].
Here is the only advice I have: [one plain sentence].
I love you. I love that baby. Go sleep if you can.
When to deliver it
This message can be delivered on a date, held until you release it, or tied to your check-in.
If the due date is known, you can schedule the message for a day or two after. Many people prefer to keep it on hold and release it themselves once the baby has arrived, so the timing is right.
If you want the message to reach your brother at his first baby even if you are no longer here, record it for the check-in as well. If you stop checking in, the message is delivered after the grace period, and your brother hears from you at the moment he most wants to.
Record it while the words are fresh
Free to start. Record on any phone, choose who it is for, and decide when it arrives.
Common questions
My brother and I are not close. Is a video message for when he has his first baby still worth recording?+
Often it is exactly the thing that helps. Keep it short, keep it kind, and do not try to settle old accounts. One honest sentence about what he means to you can do more than years of silence.
My brother does not have children yet. Should I still record a first-baby message?+
Yes, if the thought moves you. Record it now, keep it on hold, and release it when the baby comes. If you are not here by then, a trusted family member or the check-in can deliver it for you.
Is it free to start?+
Yes. You can record and save your first message for free. Scheduled delivery dates and longer videos are part of the paid plans. Receiving a message is always free and does not require an account.
Can anyone else see the message before it is delivered?+
No. The video stays private and sealed until it is delivered to the person you named. Nobody, including our team, can watch it before then. After delivery, only the recipient can view it, and they can save their own copy.
